Ormstown Rally 2005
Ottawa
Section
CVMG
Ten members of the Ottawa Section met at Frank Tetzlaff's place between 8.00 and 8.45 a.m. on July 30th to ride
to the Montreal Section rally, at the Prichard farm near Ormstown, on the south shore of the St Lawrence, south
of Valleyfield, a ride of about 170 km.

The riders were

Frank Tetzlaff - Triumph
Nigel Baker - Triumph
Brian Morrison - Norton
Brian Given - BMW
Don Cutts - Triumph
Patrick Hampson - Triumph

Dave Linkletter - Suzuki
Steve Wlodarczyk - Harley Davidson
Pierre Lalonde - Kawasaki
James Burnt - Moto Guzzi

The ride got off to a fast start that unfortunately left 4 riders stranded at the end of Frank's road and separated
from the rest of the group. As the organization for the ride was "informal' the first group did not have a
prearranged "wait spot", and the second group were not sure of which route was to be taken. The two groups
were destined not to meet again until at the Ormstown rally.

Justice prevailed; however, and as the first group had some "Triumph" breakdowns, they arrived at the rally
significantly later than the second group who were riding "non-British" bikes. There are many tales to tell about
this weekend, and the site will be updated with all the gory details. But here are some pictures that tell part of the
story.

Here are some pictures of the first groups trials

The Rally Itself, the riders were joined by Jim Hunter who is a member of both the Montreal and Ottawa Sections
and Yves Diyon from Nation River Section - Ottawa Section sibling.

That Evening some of the group rode back to Ottawa, while others went for supper at the Rockburn Inn and then
later enjoyed the evening under the stars around the camp fire. We were joined by Chris Stewart, the owner of
Moto Montreal, purveyor of parts and new Triumphs.

Don Cutts, Brian Given and Patrick Hampson had decided to stay at a very nice Bed and Breakfast 21Km of back
roads from the rally site. The hosts allowed them to store their bikes in a locked barn, guarded by an old soft
German Shepard, that looked far more aggressive than he really was, on a chain that kept him out of danger to
any possible intruders.

The house, barn, tractors and bikes made some irresistable shots (at least that's how we felt at the time)

The next day (Sunday) everyone went to Church.... or at least thought they should

The Ormstown Rally was sponsored by Honda. They had a nice display of Classic Honda's (no longer an
oxymoron), as well as new bikes that could be taken out for a test ride. Some of these Honda's are shown below:

After viewing more bikes, we saw Yves Diyon demonstrate some neat Trials action on his Tiger Cub.

After we had seen everything we agreed to take up Zeik's Stewards offer and stop by his place on the way back
to Ottawa.

The group of Frank, Don, Nigel, Patrick, Steve, Brian, and Zeik in his pick-up, with his Ariel in the back, managed
to stay together as far as Valleyfield, where we stopped at a Tim Horton's. Brian Given swallowed his pride and
had Tim's coffee. On the way from Ormstown to Valleyfield there was only one stoppage due to Triumph trouble.

The coffee must have been supercharged because Nigel and Steve, charging ahead, missed the turnoff for
Finch and were not seen again. (They had a very pleasant ride home).

The rest of the group went through some lovely countryside to Zeik;s place. We will not give location as he
doesn't want uninvited guests. This was the highlight of the weekend. The following pictures will give some idea.
Frank Tetzlaff overdosed on the sight of so many old bikes and parts.

After seeing Zeik's collection, Frank, Don, Brian and Patrick left for Ottawa, stopping for a very pleasant late
lunch in Winchester.

It had been a great weekend ride to the Ormstown rally, but for the next ride we'll try and do just a bit more
planning so we don't lose anyone along the way.
