July 1st. 2005. The Dominion Day Ride: This ride involved 7 riders, with 6 bikes representing the 50's, 60's, 70's,
and 80's, plus one new bike to give North American bike participation. The turnout was a bit disappointing, but
those taking part had a great time, and we managed to avoid getting wet in the late afternoon thunderstorms.

The riders were:

  1. Doug Smith - BSA Gold Flash A10 1959
  2. Don Cutts - Triumph Tiger T110 1961
  3. Roger Briggs - BMW R75/S? Combo - 1966
  4. Patrick Hampson - Triumph Trophy TR6 - 1966
  5. "talking" Tom ? - Kawasaki 900 - 1979
  6. Dave Linkletter - Suzuki - 1983
  7. Steve Wlodarczyk - Harley Davidson Super Glide - 2004

The group did not exceed any speed limits by more than 20 mph, and the pace was just right. All the bikes ran
without any problems.

Doug Smith did a great job of putting together a great route plan, that provided quite roads, good scenery, and
the smell of fresh mown hay.

The ride left from Ralph's Restaurant Carling Avenue, Crystal Beach, spot on time at 11:00. Those wanting
breakfast needed to show up at 9:00 to 9:30 as the restaurant was packed with people enjoying Dominion
(Canada) day. Patrick and Steve had to forgo breakfast as the ETA for breakfast was about 20 minutes after the
ride started.

The first stop was at Constance Bay, after a very interesting route that crossed to direct route at two locations.
Several riders reminisced about their wild days at Constance bay,

The Group at Constance Bay

There was one local who was "still in the '60s" who was already "high" on some substance when the group
arrived. He started to tell us about his '66 Triumph he had in his youth, and went on to say what he would do if he
had a bike today. We told him he should get one, and he said that it would be great to go out in a blaze of glory,
drugs, girls and alcohol, on a fast bike. We left him to his fantasies and rode on to Arnprior.

After Arnprior we had a short stint on Highway 17 before arriving for lunch at the new  Antrim Truck Stop,

Afterwards it was a very pleasant ride to Pakenham where the group enjoyed Ice Cream from "Scoops". The
shade was appreciated as the temperature reached the maximum for the day.

Finally Tim Horton's in Almonte.

At this point the ride concluded and the group dispersed as there was very threatening clouds approaching.
More photo's to follow (watch this space). I failed to load the film in my camera properly (I noticed when I was still
taking pictures when the indicator showed 30, and I had a roll of 24 shots. If any of the riders have photos let me
have them. Thanks to Tom for the photos above. Tom is the high tech member of our section, his digital camera
doesn't need film.
