Minutes of AGM - Held February 4th 2008

The Ottawa Section AGM, held in the auspicious workshop of Neil Hossack, on Tuesday, February 5th, in the
City Centre industrial complex. Eighteen members attended on a cold and snowy evening. Neil runs a printing
business from this workshop, but it also contains other diversions, the get in the door you have to squeeze by
a 1960's BMW, once inside. we found a Triumph Trident, that Neil had acquired in an astute trade for a Can-
Am off road bike, a Suzuki Water-buffalo, a Puch scooterette, and a small twin cylinder Suzuki, that was in the
process of being changed into a spectacular mini cafe racer. We overheard that Neil picked up one of his
acquisitions for $7.00 at a garage sale. It couldn't have been one of these bikes. Neil had put on a great
spread of food, and we all tucked in, especially Brian Given, as one of the photos will attest.

After introductions were made, including new prospective member Dave White, the business part of the
meeting started. Phil Boyes and Bruce Ray had worked together of the 2007 financial report, which indicated
that we were in good shape financially, with over $3000 in the kitty, despite unforeseen expenditures for
flowers for deceased members funerals, and the fact that we had been able to Donate $500 to charity, from
the proceeds of our St. Albert Rally.

After the financials were out of the way, it was time to elect the section executive for 2008. This was a much
more civilized contest than the one occurring on the same "Super Tuesday" in the US. The following members
were elected: President -Brian "Hogman" Given, Vice President - Bruce "CafeRacer" Ray, Secretary and
Webmaster - Patrick "Trumpeter" Hampson, Treasurer - Pierre "Packard" Lalonde. In addition to these
position we also elected the following 5 members as "executive members at large" - Peter "Venom" Gaby, Neil
"Boxer" Hossack, Phil "Chief" Boyes, and outgoing president Frank "Hodaka" Trepanier. In case the nation's
CVMG readers are worried, Don Cutts will continue to provide "Road Tales" for the CVMG News on a regular
basis. This is the most important position, that cannot be risked to tyhe fickleness of an election.

We then reviewed the 20 or so events that the Ottawa Section will be participating, including, 4 or 5 were the
section will be making a major display, including our 2008 Rally at St Albert, and the Ottawa Valley Bike Show.

We wrapped up the business meeting with other business, this touched on issues of how best national CVMG
should be organized and how to make best use of available funds, lobbying of seasonal licenses and
insurance cover for multiple motorcycles (it was noted that few of use ride more than one at any one time),
use of historic and vintage license plates.
This discussion was adjourned, as we couldn't solve the world's problems in one evening, plus there was
more interesting things to do. So we had the 50/50 draw which was won by Dan Coffey.

Peter Gaby, then gave a technical talk on how to make Brough Superior Tool Boxes, as one was required by
one of our members. He then went on to show his example of an adaptation for a modern twist on oil filter to
be used on an old motorcycle such as a 1960's BSA, where the oil filter can fit inside the tool box area, out of
sight. If anyone is interested they should contact his business manager, Don Cutts.

After the official meeting came to an end, the real fun started. Neil Hossack decided it was a good opportunity
to clean out his workshop of the old stuff he now longer wanted. He was giving away carburetters, saddle
bags, strange items that no one knew what they were. Those members who had gone outside for a quick
smoke, were pig sick, as they missed all the goodies.

The group continued to munch on the remaining goodies, and refresh themselves with fine brews, and enjoy
each others company for the remainder of the evening.

The March meeting will be held in the garage of Don Cutts, on Tuesday March 4th.

It was agreed that this email would be used to solicit members to make nominations for executive. They can
be for themselves or another member. We will publish nominees before the AGM, but it will also be possible to
nominate from the floor of the AGM. This AGM meeting is held the same day as the US Presidential "Super
Tuesday", but I bet our meeting will be more exciting!!!

The meeting also discussed the Ottawa Section website, feedback was it was worth the money, but it will
enhanced to make it more appealing to younger people, and to put more details of planned rides on the home
page. We then had a demonstration of the new membership system, and the capabilities to find members with
obscure motorcycles. The final business was to agree that the new executive would determine what Christmas
dinner arrangements would be made for 2008, but commented that the 2007 was a grand event.

Following the official meeting, we then had the prime events of the evening, the 50/50 draw won by Gregg K,
he came away with nearly $30. We then adjourned to Bruce's basement workshop, where we saw that Bruce
was jumping on the bandwagon craze of building motorcycles powered by stationary motors. We saw Bruce's
featherbed inspired frame, but significantly lighter than the Norton original, but maybe not as strong as the 3/4
inch pipe material wasn't Reynolds 531 standard.

While members were admiring Bruce's creations, they also discussed their own plans for the coming months,
such as taking our motorcycles to Daytona bike week at the end of February, getting ready for the Lanark
Spring Trials, plus all our own basement and garage projects. Everyone departed well fed, and their thirst
quenched, and all was well with the world of older motorcycles, and the loose nuts that accompany them.

The Section next official meeting is the AGM to be held February 5th at the workshop of Neil Hossack, in close
proximity to Don Cutts garage.
